The Bekkersdal Renewal Project has prioritised the following development projects to improve the social facilities for the community of Bekkersdal:
Clinics
Bekkersdal Proper has two clinics, known as the East and the West Clinics.
The East Clinic, is located at the CBD and forms one of the key land use elements within the CBD. This clinic was used as one of the structuring elements in the renewal of this area. As part of the Bekkersdal Renewal Project, the East Clinic has been extended and completely renovated. This project was completed in early 2007.

The west clinic is located at the south-western entrance to Bekkersdal, opposite the hostel complex. This clinic is housed in the large, formal and well-maintained structure and forms one of the pivotal land use elements in Bekkersdal Proper. As part of the Bekkersdal Renewal Project, the West Clinic has also been updated.

Parks
Bekkersdal Proper has four zoned parks. These are located within the four quadrants of Bekkersdal. As a result they are ideally located within the residential areas of Bekkersdal and easily accessible to all the households living in Bekkersdal Proper. These parks have been upgraded as key elements in the renewal of Bekkersdal and are being used by the Bekkersdal community.
Develop and maintain the parks
The four zoned parks in Bekkersdal have been developed. This involved landscaping these parks with lawns, trees, walkways and play gyms. The walkways have been aligned to follow the logical desire lines that pedestrians crossing the parks would use.
Link parks to other precincts
To ensure the developed parks are accessible to the greater Bekkersdal community, these parks have been linked to other precincts, e.g. the High Street Precinct and the CBD Precinct. The roads that link these parks to these precincts have been streetscaped, which involved the planting of trees and creating walkways.
